The
»Ikon-Magazin« is a German language periodical devoted to contemp-
- orary
camera arts of the late modern, post-modern and digital varieties.
It
is published quarterly - out of offices in Munich, Germany.
This
»Digest« collects some of the material originally published
in the Ger-
- man
language part of the Magazin into a coherent English language reader
- divided
into the same sections as the German pages.
While
the German pages are updated and expanded monthly, this Digest
- will
be enlarged less often, depending on how much material published in
- the
German part seems interesting to an international audience.
We
start this Ikon-Digest in October of 2002 with three sections: »News«,
- »Portfolios«,
and »Specials«. Two more sections [»Discourse«
and »Re-
- views«]
are to come and will be installed soon. See the empty buttons on
- the
right.
Navigation
within the Digest is easy. You just click one of the buttons on
- the
right to move from section to section. If you wish to enter the German
- part,
you click the »navigator« button. It calls up a linklist the
top button of
- which
brings you back to the homepage of the magazine.
The
lower part of the navigator offers you links to four related websites
- you
may also want to inspect. They are the other sites that - together with
- the
»Ikon-Magazin« form the »Fotorama-Net«.
In
addition to the »Ikon-Magazin« this net consists of the »Ikon-Galerie«,
- the
»Fotorama«, the »Fotomuseum«, and the »Fotobrowser«.
Like
the »Ikon-Magazin« they are devoted to contemporary camera
arts
- as
well. The »Ikon-Galerie« is the homepage of the real world
gallery that
- publishes
the »Ikon-Magazin«. On its homepage it features virtual exhibi-
- tions
of the artists it represents in the real world.
The
»Fotorama« is the portal of the »Fotorama-Net«.
It is structured like
- a
virtual Kunstahlle with spaces for solo, group and theme shows, a stu-
- dy
center with text resources on the contemporary camera arts, and
- the
site map for the »Fotorama-Net«.
The
»Fotomuseum« is structured like real world photo-museums with
se-
- parate
»galleries« and »cabinets« covering the major steps
in the evolu-
- tion
of photography as a mass medium and artistic tool.
The
»Fotobrowser« finally is specialized webcatalog listing about
3.000
- hotlinks
[as of Sep 2002] to internet pages that contain information on ca-
- mera
arts in all parts of the world. It is continually updated & expanded.
At
present no browser plug-ins are needed to view all content offered
- on
the various sites of the »Fotorama-Net«. Only the »java
enabling«
- function
of your browser has to be active, since a good part of the in-
- formation
here in the »Ikon-Magazin« and elswehere in the »Fotorama-
- Net«
is stored in new windows, which can only be opened with active
- java
enabling.
Otherwise
we wish happy browsing.
