Is the increasing use of visual media resulting in greater visual intelligence
on the part of the observer or is he merely being manipulated more effec-
tively? - this question was examined by the »Frames of Viewing - Percep-
tion, Experience, Judgement« conference held at the Haus der Kulturen
der Welt in Berlin in May 2002. Together with the Getty Research Institute
for the History of Art and the Humanities, Los Angeles, the HKW organised
this event with international experts from the worlds of cognition, history
and media sciences, ethnology and philosophy. The individual lectures and
discussions during the two-day conference can now be accessed free
of charge at the media library of the netzspannung.org Internet platform.
The entire programme, details of the lecturers and additional information
